Biography
Paul is an Adjunct Research Professor of Computer Science at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies and a Senior Staff Scientist at Google. Debevec’s research in image-based modeling and rendering, high dynamic range photography, image-based lighting, appearance acquisition, and photoreal digital humans has been recognized with ACM SIGGRAPH’s first Significant New Researcher Award in 2001, a Scientific and Engineering Academy Award in 2010, the SMPTE Progress Medal in 2017, and a second Academy Award for the invention of Polarized Spherical Gradient Illumination facial scanning used to create digital actors in movies from Avatar in 2009 to Gemini Man in 2019.
